Coaching for increased effectiveness is available by phone or in person.
Positivity Coaching is based on the science of Positive Psychology. We concentrate our efforts on creating a better life, rather than dwelling on eliminating unwanted circumstances. Thriving has its own explanation, and is not a theory of disorder flipped upside down. Positivity coaching goes right to the heart of the matter. By helping clients clarify their core values, offering ideas about how to plan the life they want, and providing tools to live by, clients can begin thriving.
Pogo said, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” We create our own limitations. Venture out of your comfort zone. Get into your opportunity zone—the edge where growth, excitement, and opportunity exist. Change is never easy, even if the change is to make life better. Change calls for intention, commitment, and know-how.
There is a fix or there is none.
If there’s a fix, aggressively seek and find it.
If there is none, never mind it.
Language has a way of evolving. The National Institute of Mental Health only deals with mental disabilities and mental illnesses. NIMA is all about dysfunctions. Psychology is defined as the scientific study of human behavior and yet, conventional psychologists seldom study behavior that really matters. Fretting away one’s life is not even mentioned in the psychologists’ new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5). Happiness and unhappiness are two separate factors. Removing the cause of unhappiness does not produce happiness. It only opens the space for one’s natural level of happiness to appear.
The goal of traditional therapy is to clear away problems that stand between patients and their happiness. Positivity Coaching moves beyond emphasis on problems and goes directly to action that promotes happiness. Positivity Coaching is a bridge to a better life by moving straight for the goal.
Positivity Coaching provides the know-how and accountability for your progress toward creating the life you want. Now you can actively pursue happiness. You can achieve greater happiness and satisfaction with life, through the following activities:
- Identifying and using your talents and strengths
- Being engaged in activities
- Having closer relationships with neighbors, colleagues, friends, and family members
- Making a positive contribution to a social group or community
- Having a personal meaning and purpose
“You don’t know what your limits are until you have failed, and when you have, that is your opportunity to learn” (drlynnjohnson.com).
Using coaching, consulting, and mentoring approaches, we assist people to choose change by providing support and strategies for success. We are not about fixing others’ lives. We assist our clients to pursue their own goals and to experience greater happiness.
Why Work with a Positivity Coach?
Coaching is an ideal process for people who want a better life. There are several reasons people choose to work with Positivity Coaches. See if you fit any of the following situations:
- You can make faster progress by working with someone focused on your success
- You will enjoy the journey more with someone to share your successes.
- You do not have a mental (un)health diagnosis
- You do not want a mental health diagnosis
- You do not have mental health insurance
- You need someone to talk to now
- You have seen positive changes in others who were coached
We have numerous tools that work for clients. There is research to support the conclusion that the quality of the client-therapist relationship is often more important than the particular form of therapy. The same likely holds true for coaching.
In addition to coaching, we teach communication skills, and we also provide accountability and reinforcement for clients to reach milestones on their journey to a better life. At times we use a coaching version of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We call what we do, “Acceptance and Commitment Training.” ACT is supported by a growing body of research and there are several books available for independent study. ACT is helpful for clients who focus their attention on the past (disappointment and depression) and for clients who are preoccupied with worry about the future (anxiety). Of course we refer clients with serious or entrenched problems to a psychologist.
From both observation and feedback, we know our clients are living happier, more productive, and more effective lives. Our mission is to provide a bridge to a better life for our clients.
Positivity Coaching is a bridge for clients to get from where they are to where they want to be. Our clients are on a journey. The bridge is not the journey. Rather than taking a long way around, the bridge contributes to the journey by providing a direct and efficient path to speed the client’s pursuit. The coach-client connection creates opportunities and opens better routes to wonderful destinations.
