Unalienable Pursuits (U.P.) is used by individuals for independent study and by Positivity Coaches as a curriculum for their clients. The impact of U.P. is amplified by working with another person, a strategic ally. Two people can work as strategic allies for each other—each one pursuing their own unique self-selected goals. Module 1: In Pursuit of Happiness–Exercising Your Unalienable Rights

The pursuit of happiness is an unalienable right enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. This module delivers a broad perspective of scientific, psychological, socio-economic, historical, and spiritual views of happiness within our human experience, and invites you to explore its present state of being in your own life. Module 1 explains the Unalienable Pursuits’ signature process, A-C-D-C, as a model for transformation and a template for embracing change:

Assessment: Seek Awareness of your potential, your strengths, and your dormant interests.

Contemplation: Realize that YOU are the one Responsible for creating the “You-of-the-Future.” Think about ways to use your strengths to achieve your objectives.

Discussion: Share your ideas with another person and seek feedback.

Commitment: Decide on appropriate action and commit to the pursuit. Complete the commitment contract and have it signed by a coach, mentor, or trusted friend.

Your potential for happiness is a result of your choiceful actions. You can craft your personal Declaration of Independence. You will learn about common misconceptions and myths about happiness. You will learn the steps for pursuing a transformational path toward wellbeing. And you will be given tools for measuring your happiness level.

Module 2: In Pursuit of Life’s Meaning–Why You Matter—Your Values and Purpose

Assess what motivates you. Once you have that awareness, Module 2 walks you through multiple steps and activities to transform this awareness into action. These steps become positive habitual behaviors that will assist you throughout your life to move toward your goals. Tapping into these practices unleashes energy to “fuel” your pursuit engine and generates momentum for optimal success in reaching your goals. Module 2 helps you gain an understanding of needs versus wants. Module 2 includes:

  • A handy, easy-to-use section on many specific positive steps to help you get and stay motivated.

Module 5: In Pursuit of Self-Mastery–Training for Effective Living

This module is about taking responsibility for your life and developing empowerment skills. It includes introduction of techniques for achieving Big Important Goals (B.I.G).

You are not an animal driven by instinct or a robot running on commands. You have choices. Reflect on your actions. Look at your past. Plan for the future. Make choices aligned with your core values. If you have a habit of getting jealous or angry, you have the opportunity to change.
You can reprogram your brain into a more positive way of thinking instead of claiming victimhood. By assessing your strengths and contemplating ways to reframe negative thoughts, you can alter your life’s trajectory into an exciting and successful future. Emotional Intelligence involves an awareness of the emotions of self and others. Interactions with others is both basic and challenging. Building supportive relationships is an important step in the pursuit of happiness. You can build mutually supportive relationships with co-workers, friends, and acquaintances. This module provides a detailed framework about the process of developing these relationships as well as effective communication techniques. Several landmark contributions have been analyzed to explain aspects of vibrant relationships.

Most of us spend much of our waking time in a work environment. Relationships with co-workers have a significant influence on our happiness. It is important to build friendships in the work environment because it helps people be more engaged in their jobs. Positivity influences our interactions with others and increases our own happiness. Validating others is an important part of relationship building. Acknowledging key people in our lives creates openness and positive experiences.

Module 8: In Pursuit of Enduring Love–Building Commitment and Devotion

The conventional approach to couples’ counseling is “Let’s fix what’s wrong. The strong part of the relationship will take care of itself.” This deficit theory approach includes four activities: (1) Identify the problem; (2) Conduct a root cause analysis; (3) Brainstorm and analyze possible solutions; and (4) Develop an action plan.

Module 8 is about how to flourish as a couple, and not about how to repair relationships or about making relationships less bad. The material comes from studies of long-term happy relationships, rather than studies of couples who separated. The strength of a relationship depends more on what is right than on what is wrong.

One perspective used to strengthen a couple’s relationship is to view it as a business partnership. In other words, learning how to make your partnership flourish. Another perspective is to assess your relationship as best friends. What is it that you value in your best friends? One important consideration is how one reacts to the partner’s successes and triumphs.

This module introduces Harley’s “Love Bank” concept where individuals make deposits and withdrawals in each other’s Love Bank. Language of Love is about assessing each person’s primary love language and learning to express your love in your mate’s primary love language. There is only about one chance in five that one’s primary love language is the same as one’s mate’s primary love language.

Module 9: In Pursuit of Prosperity–Building a Greater Sense of Abundance

This module takes you through both the psychological and the fiscal steps needed to help create a sense of happiness and wellbeing as it relates to money.

  • Understand that we have the right to pursue happiness, but that it is our responsibility to discover what makes us happy and take the steps to make it happen.
  • Control your own finances or if you have a spouse or money manger who handles things, stay well informed.
  • Minimize money worries by understanding your finances. Analyze how much goes where, when, and what your spending habits are.
  • Make a flexible personal budget and get away from mood-based purchases.
  • Learn the value of creating experiences that enrich your life. Set aside money for this. It doesn’t take great quantities. Simple experiences are just as good.
  • Budget for donating specifically to the charities that you care about and do not be manipulated by professional fund-raisers and their psychological guilt scripts.
  • Avoid comparing yourself to others, i.e., “My clothes, are not as trendy as my neighbor’s. I have to buy new ones.” Fiscal happiness or any kind of happiness is an on-going process because we are always changing and growing. As long as you keep yourself open and continue to learn, you will find what you’re looking for.

Unalienable Pursuits Program started with our nation’s Declaration of Independence. It is up to you to declare your personal independence. Only you can define the meaning of your life. Module 10: In Pursuit of Super Health–Vitality, Spirit, and Vigor

Module 10 of Unalienable Pursuits is about making effective choices for physical happiness. This is your invitation to start your pursuit of the physical condition to support your goals. You will discover ways to immediately enhance your sleep experience while simultaneously feeding the needs of your active self. You will discover the benefits of relaxation, hydration, flexibility, friendship, food, and ways to incorporate these elements into your day to immediately enhance your happiness. The exercises are simple and intense. You can begin today to develop your strength, flexibility, resilience, awareness, clarity of thought, and movement. The exercises are user ready. Module 11: In Pursuit of Harmonious Parenting–Connecting with Your Children

When we left the auto dealer with our new car, we found that it came with an extensive operator’s manual to cover every conceivable situation. Not so when leaving the hospital with a new baby. The hospital does not provide an operator’s manual on parenting. You will likely be provided with information on how to care for newborns, but when the new child hits the terrible twos, you are a diaper load out of luck.

To drive a car, one expects to complete a training program and to drive under supervision during the learner’s permit period. This is followed with a road test to validate one’s driving skills.
